October 11, 2024 – Paradigm Clinical Research, which opened its doors in Modesto, California just a couple of months ago, was officially welcomed into the community during a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce. The event drew civic leaders, local representatives, and community members to celebrate not just a new business, but a vital resource committed to the future of healthcare.
“Although they’ve been open for about two months, they’re ready for the rest of the community to know they’re here—and ready to make a difference,” said Trish Christensen, President & CEO of the Modesto Chamber of Commerce. “It’s amazing how far clinical research has come. Knowing that some of this work can now be done outside of hospitals is incredible—it removes fear and provides a more comfortable, accessible setting.”
Paradigm Clinical Research was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Redding, California, with research site locations across multiple states including Colorado and Idaho. The company plans to grow to 25 locations by 2028. Sarah Sandberg, Regional Site Director, shared that the organization’s mission is to “provide communities opportunities to advance the human condition through participation in brilliantly executed clinical studies.”
During the event, Sarah shared that the Modesto site is already partnering with local physicians, including Dr. Jose Rodriguez, to lead clinical studies. Current research includes studies on Alzheimer’s disease, a pediatric post-oximeter device, and upcoming trials focused on obesity and diabetes.
“We want to tell the community what we’re doing and how they can be a part of it,” said Sarah. “If you’re interested in participating in clinical trials, give us a call—we’ll let you know what studies you may qualify for.”
The emotional resonance of clinical research was made personal through stories shared at the event. Trish recounted how her mother-in-law participated in clinical trials while battling lymphoma in the 1980s, and how years later, her nephew—with the same diagnosis—benefited from the progress those earlier trials made possible. “She battled for eight years, taking part in studies when no treatments were working. Thanks to efforts like that, my nephew went into remission in just 18 months.”
Local leaders echoed the importance of Paradigm’s presence in the Central Valley. “Knowledge is power—and the right knowledge is the right power,” said Modesto City Council member Jeremiah Williams. “You’re acquiring knowledge that helps people be better for their families, for themselves, and for our city.”
Justin Parkus, representing Assemblyman Juan Alanis’ office, also spoke about the need for accessible clinical research, noting personal experiences with family members facing terminal illness. “We’re incredibly grateful that you’re here in our hometown—helping propel treatments forward so there’s one less death from cancer, obesity, or Alzheimer’s.”
